The Limestone District School Board hosts more than 120 international students each year from countries such as Brazil, Italy, China, Germany, Czech Republic, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, France, Vietnam, Rwanda and others. Many life-long friendships have developed out of Limestone's international student homestay program. Students come from 4 months to over one year to improve their English and experience living in a new culture. The students that attend for a longer time come to prepare for entering a Canadian college or university. We are often looking for homestay families for all lengths of stay from 4 months to two years. Hosting an international student is a highly rewarding experience!

Host families provide international students with the support that parents normally provide their own children:

  • A nurturing family environment while students study in Kingston.
  • A private bedroom, equipped with a bed, desk, and appropriate storage space.
  • Three nutritious meals per day.
  • Transportation to activities around Kingston, when necessary.

Host families are compensated with a monthly stipend of $1075/month (for the 2025-2026 school year) . This tax-free stipend is paid to homestay families directly by the Limestone District School Board.
